Best Espresso Machine Collection – Espresso Machines Reviews | Friedcoffee

Are you hunting for the Home Espresso Machine that’s best? A machine that gives the consistent taste of espresso over time, makes the perfect mouth lingering taste every time, and doesn’t take up too much of time frame can be called as the best. Still, ‘best espresso machine’ varies from person to person as everyone has its own preferences for taste, functionality and pricing.

Best Home Espresso Machine Collection

Italians have been enjoying espresso, or pressure-brewed coffee, since the late 19th century. The first espresso machine were huge steam-driven contraptions that often overheated the water in order to maintain pressure and those were considered as the best of that time. It was a natural development to start using the steam to heat and froth milk to go with the coffee. The time flew and here we are with smaller coffee machines capable of brewing the best cups in much lesser time.

After World War II, a hand lever was added to the boiler to optimize the pressure without overheating the coffee, and modern espresso was born. Hot water forced through a compacted puck of ground coffee gives espresso its characteristic flavor and crema (the rich, caramel-colored fine foam layer on top of a good cup of espresso).

Espresso machines have come a long way in the past seven decades, but the basic process remains the same. An espresso machine consists of a brew head, a portafilter to hold the ground coffee, a boiler and a steam wand to heat milk.

If you’re thinking of picking one of the Best Espresso Machine for home from the market, there’s no shortage of models to choose from and everyone claims to be the best. You can find some machines that cost less than a hundred dollars while others can cost several thousand dollars. How do you begin to sort through your options?

To help you narrow down your choice among the Top Home Espresso Machines, ask yourself a few questions:

How much are you able or willing to spend?
Do you have any experience pulling espresso shots?
How often do you drink espresso and espresso-based drinks?

Once you have a better handle on your own priorities, it’s time to take a look at a few models, that are considered to be the best picks in the Espresso Makers.

#1 Hamilton Beach 40792 Espresso and Cappuccino Maker

Hamilton Beach 40792 Espresso Machine

If you’re looking for an entry-level machine that doesn’t cost too much, this Hamilton Beach 40792  might the right pick to be the best home espresso machine for your platform. It’s easy for beginners to use, and makes a good cup of espresso and that is all what makes sense.

Features and Specifications

  • 15 bar pump
  • Removable drip tray and water tank
  • Swiveling steam wand
  • Filter takes ground espresso or ESE pods
  • Cup warmer
  • Slide and Lock filter for easy set-up

HB 40792 is an easy machine for someone who is just learning to pull shots. The Slide and Lock feature holds the filter attachment securely in place during brewing.
It comes with two filter baskets to make either single or double shots. The single shot basket can also be used with ESE pods. Users report that they get good crema with this machine.
The Hamilton Beach does have some limitations. It has no programmable features at all – you even have to manually stop the flow of water when your cup is as full as you want it. Also, the housing is plastic and really isn’t built to withstand the test of time.
But if you’re looking for an easy introduction to espresso making and don’t want to spend a lot of fortune on your first machine, you can’t go wrong with this model.

#2 DeLonghi EC702 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker

Delonghi EC702

Delonghi EC702 is another great pick in the very Best Home Espresso Machine category. If you’re a first-time buyer, than you must be looking for something affordable and easy to use. This Delonghi has got a few more features to offer than the Hamilton Beach 40792 and is one of the most popular espresso machines available in the market.

Features and Specifications

  • 15 bar pump
  • 44 ounce removable water tank
  • Stainless steel boiler
  • Separate thermostats for water and steam
  • Automatic self-priming
  • Patented filter holder takes ground coffee or pods
  • Easy-to-use steam wand
  • Cup warmer

Just as with the Hamilton Beach, you can use either your own ground coffee or ESE pods with this machine too. The pressurized portafilter baskets mean that you’ll get good crema every time even if you’re a beginner at pulling shots.
The DeLonghi EC702 features a good-quality stainless steel boiler and separate thermostat for the steam wand and the water used for brewing. The automatic self-priming means that you don’t have to wait around for a long time waiting for the machine to warm up.
This espresso machine has very little in the way of bells and whistles – no automatic shut-off, no pre-infusion, and no programmability. But if you’re just looking for a basic entry-level machine that produces great espresso and steamed milk, this machine will keep you happy.

#3 Breville Duo-Temp Pro Espresso Machine

Breville Duo Temp Pro

Breville Duo Temp is a mid-range espresso machine for budding home baristas who are looking to upgrade. It may also be a good first machine if you’re already a bit familiar with the process of making espresso. This machine can be easily spotted in few small to medium sized cafes for making an excellent shot of espresso. Many home baristas have been using it from long time and that is why we clubbed this machine in our Top Home Espresso Machine Collection.

Features and Specifications

  • Stainless steel thermocoil
  • 61 ounce water tank with built-in filter
  • Very fast warm-up time
  • Pre-infusion
  • Comes with pressurized and non-pressurized baskets
  • Cup warmer
  • 15 bar pump
  • PID temperature control

First of all, this Breville machine is a definite step up from the entry-level models. The precision of the PID temperature controller combined with pre-infusion allows you to get optimal results.
Pressurized filter baskets make it easy to get good crema even if your grind and tamp are not perfect. With the Breville Duo Temp, you can also start to work on your skills by using non-pressurized baskets. They require a bit better technique, but most people agree that they make a better end product.

Maybe the biggest difference between this model and the high-end machines is the lack of programmability. And with the Duo-Temp, you even have to manually stop the brewing process. If you care more about the underlying quality of the machine than about program ability, this model offers excellent value for money.

#4 Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

This is not a machine for beginners, but if you’re experienced at pulling shots, you will love the results you get with this machine. Priced in the mid-range the Rancilio Silvia also features a beautiful stainless steel design. It can be found in many homes and small cafes as it does makes a wonderful shot, always.

Features and Specifications

  • 67 ounce water tank
  • Chrome-plated commercial grade steam wand
  • 15 bar pump
  • Commercial grade group head
  • Chrome plated brass portafilter
  • 12 ounce brass boiler
  • Three thermostats separately monitor steam, boiler, and espresso temperatures
  • 3-way solenoid valve for easy clean-up

The Silvia is intended for residential use, but it includes many of the same features as Rancilio’s commercial models and that is why many small cafes have been using it for making descent espressos. The group head, portafilter and boiler are all constructed of solid brass, and the powerful steam wand is also commercial-grade. The portafilter handle has the same ergonomic design found in the commercial models too.

What really separates this model from the commercial machines is its single boiler design. Because you can’t heat milk and brew coffee back to back, you can’t produce a lot of drinks in a short amount of time like in commercial ones.

The Silvia is a bit unforgiving when it comes to consistency of grind and tamp. But if you’ve got the skills to deal with it, this machine will give you commercial quality at a more affordable price. Read Complete Review: Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

#5 Breville BES920XL Dual Boiler Semi Automatic Espresso Machine

Breville BES920XL Dual Boiler

Another great option is the Breville BES920XL for those who are really serious about their espresso. Due to high price, this option is mostly neglected but this is the best pick if you’re willing to pay more for added functionality. So we have kept this machine in last position due to the pricing part. In addition, the dual boiler design allows you to make more drinks in a shorter amount of time.

Features and Specifications

  • Stainless steel double boiler
  • 84 ounce water tank
  • Programmable shot volume and temperature
  • Pressurized and non-pressurized filter baskets
  • Cup warmer
  • Separate hot water dispenser
  • Automatic on and shut-off
  • Pre-infusion
  • Over-pressure valve limits extraction pressure
  • PID temperature control

It’s right there in the name – dual boilers mean that you can steam milk and pull shots at the same time. And this may not sound that important if you’re just making yourself a morning latte, but if you’ve got guests over and everyone wants a cappuccino, it saves a lot of time.

Moreover, both of the Breville models reviewed here come with tampers that attach magnetically to the body of the machine. Almost many espresso makers come with useless little plastic tampers, but Breville actually gives you a decent solid metal tamper.

The Breville Dual Boiler allows you to program the length and temperature of the shot, as well as automatic on and off times for the machine. Therefore, this is the best espresso machine for home if you’ve got a bigger budget and want a fast, high-quality machine with plenty of bells and whistles. Also Breville is a company that puts a lot of care into the details.

  1. No reviews on saeco or Jura machines? These machines are stalwarts in home machines.
And if you are an espresso lover then you just have to try
Salimbene espresso coffee available in the USA on
It won best Italian roast for 2015 in a blind tasting of all popular European brands by Crema magazine and best espresso by espresso coffee snobs. Com

      1. Thanks for the info and for pointing out the super machines.
I’d just like to say I’m looking at buying a new super machine, my old one, a Saeco Vienna finally died.
It was 15 years old. I maintained it well cleaning and de calcifying it every 3 months.
The computer inside registered over 30,000 cups of espresso were pulled on it. The repair man said,” This machine owes you nothing, its done its job! So I am looking for another Saeco or Jura. Quality lasts.
However over the years I have always looked for that perfect cup and I think I found it in Salimbene, a local roaster in Naples, now available in the USA on It won a lot of awards in Europe, try it and let me know what you think. Its a blend of coffee beans from all over the world, and isn’t bitter at all.

      2. Sure George, will be trying your said words. However, if you are looking for a Super espresso then do try Jura as I mentioned in my previous comment. These are the high end machines that can go long without complaining. Moreover, a machine that I missed in that article was Jura Ena 9which is again a great piece of creation. It would be grateful if you buy from our link as that supports our site.
